The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of India expressed through its annual report of 2017 the need to monitor the dark web due to its increased use in drug trafficking while using bitcoin as the currency of choice. The report indicated the fact that darknet users have no direct contact with vendors and law enforcement, as the biggest reason more Indians started using the dark web to acquire drugs. The report stated that law enforcement agencies booked two cases in 2017, for which drugs were purchased through the dark web. In the first case, 21 people were arrested in a drug trafficking case that involved LSD and MDMA bought from the dark web. In the second case, two people were arrested in Delhi and 100 pills of Ecstasy confiscated.

At Teesside Magistrates’ Court, Tony Martin Douglas Croes, 26, argued that he had not intentionally accessed the darknet in search of child abuse images. He said that he had not downloaded the illegal pictures found on his computer. Instead, Croes had accessed the darknet in search of illegal substances. Somehow, he “stumbled” onto a website that offered child abuse content.[IMG]

According to prosecutor Rachael Dodsworth, the 26-year-old defendant had downloaded more than 100 illegal pictures of preteen children. The images were not the worst...
The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill intended to help prevent the illegal use of cryptocurrencies. The bill is meant to stop the use of cryptocurrencies including bitcoin, monero, dash, and Zcash, in online markets to carry out illegal activities such as drug and sex trafficking. Currently, the biggest dark web marketplaces support the use of more than one of these cryptocurrencies. Dream Market, for example, supports the use of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash.

Bill H.R 6069 known as the “fight Illicit Networks and Detect Trafficking Act” or simply the “FIND Trafficking Act,” was introduced to the House by California Representative Juan Vargas.

Over 35 dark web drugs and arms dealers have been arrested in a nation-wide bust by a joint operation between the US Department of Justice, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Secret Service (USSS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Postal Inspection Service (USPIS). This bust was the first nation-wide undercover operation to sweep dark web drug dealers.

Law enforcement agents disguised themselves as money launderers on various dark web marketplaces, including Hansa, Dream, Silk Road 2, AlphaBay and many more during the year-long operation offering to give out cryptocurrencies in exchange for U.S. currency. The agents then uncovered their mailing...

Judge Robert Pawson, at a sentencing hearing in Swindon Crown Court, sentenced a heavy user of ecstasy to nothing but a suspended sentence after hearing how a near death experience had changed the (now former) drug user’s outlook on life.

Steven Hancock, 46, frequently purchased ecstasy pills on the darknet throughout 2017 and perhaps even earlier than 2017. He told the court that he heavily used both ecstasy and marijuana. The man explained that sometimes he took as many as five pills every night. Despite his heavy drug use, Hancock maintained a steady job and seemingly dealt with his rent and other bills on...
In December of last year, the attorneys for Ross Ulbricht, the convicted creator of the original Silk Road darknet, had asked the Supreme Court of the United States to review Ulbricht’s case in a petition for a writ of certiorari they filed with the high court. But prior to the end of the Supreme Court’s term for this year, the court denied Ulbricht’s petition and refused to hear the case. Ulbricht’s legal team was challenging the conviction and double life sentence given to Ulbricht on the grounds that Ulbricht’s rights protected by the 4th amendment and 6th amendment of the United States Constitution.

According to documents from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, the 19-year-old has been making similar calls since the year 2014 when he was a minor.[IMG]

The Spanish Civil Guard, Austrian Police, and Europol conducted an operation that led to one of the largest drug busts in the EU, according to a recent announcement from the numerous law enforcement agencies involved in the operation. The investigation, as revealed on the Civil Guard’s website, was conducted under the framework of ”Operation DRYER” and involved several years of work from international law enforcement agencies.
